Cartografías Téxtiles is an international participatory action-research project that promotes the study and artistic work with textile materials and techniques such as embroidery (or any other) and has as its thematic focus Sustainable Development Goal 16 of the United Nations 2030 agenda (promoting just, peaceful and inclusive societies).
By making small textile pieces (10x10cm squares of fabric), the idea is to enable each participant to reflect on their relationship with the environment and the territory while sewing to promote social cohesion, environmental activism and the relationship with identity and heritage.
The theme we propose here is: “Dálle voz ao lugar” through which we invite you to participate by sewing, embroidering, drawing… your stories on the fabrics so that with all the squares we build a collective cartography that shows the diversity of voices and textile narratives and works as a collective appeal against social and environmental conflicts and for the future of the places and, by the way, of the planet.
The information session that will take place on the 23rd of February will include the participation of visual artists and arteducators Ângela Saldanha (APECV), Celia Matsunaga, Dolores Soto e Ramona Rodríguez e Mª Dolores Gallego (coordinators of the project in Brasilia, Valencia and Almería, respectively). They will explain (telematically) the characteristics of the proposals they have developed in different educational contexts. They will also provide materials and resources that can serve as support for people who wish to participate individually or collectively in the participatory installation that will be hosted by the Museo do Pobo Galego in April.
We invite teachers, students and anyone else interested to attend this session on the 23rd of February from 5 to 7 pm.
