Abstract

The “ninth art” is the focus of interest of “Comic and Literature”, the new monograph of the Thematic Research Network “The Children’s and Youth Literatures of the Iberian and Ibero-American Framework” (LIJMI) which, each year, contributes a publication with the purpose of serving as a tool in the mediation tasks between books and reading. Those who are interested in this hybrid product between art and literature, known as bande dessinée (BD), comic, comic-book or história em quadrinhos, among other forms, will find in this publication a set of panoramic studies of the situation of the comic in the Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Portuguese, Basque, Brazilian and Mexican spheres. You will also find a wide selection of works, which are examples of literary graphic biography, comic adaptations of classic works or comics that are formally or thematically attractive, and a set of twenty-four detailed analyses of some of the most significant titles. ” Comic and Literature” does not leave aside the importance of literary and artistic education through comics and offers guidelines in this sense as well.
