Abstract

The history of the seminary of Mondoñedo is, seen from the perspective of our times, an example of a specialised educational centre and a beacon that shone a light on the whole diocese. The Cantabrian region -from Ferrol to Ribadeo-, the lands of Miranda and those of Terrachá would not be understood without this cultural centre which, from the cathedral and the seminary, made Mondoñedo a point of reference for locals and foreigners alike. In the four and a half centuries of history that this book covers, one feels as if one is on the way to finding oneself. It is as if our life were told many times over, recreated in generations of seminarians. For us, intellectual children of the Seminary, the work is justified in the tension and emotion of the Homage. This book is what will remain, even if only in the shadows of the libraries, once the words of the speeches of 17th October 2015, the day of remembrance, fade away. And we should celebrate the fact that the life and cultural history of our Institution appears here, in all its essence and detail.
