This paper takes a critical look at the legislative framework for visual and plastic arts in the new primary curriculum and discusses the reasons that justify the importance of this subject in primary education. It stresses the need for an appropriate place for arts education and visual and plastic arts in the existing regulatory framework and also examines the role of the arts in education. Finally, it explores the possibility of using interdisciplinary projects as a possible alternative on the present educational scene.
