Can a work of conceptual art serve as a catalyst for a project to improve literacy skills in the second cycle of early childhood education? This is the proposal that was carried out in a Rural Grouped Centre (RGC) near the city of A Coruña. The text justifies and describes the learning process, which generated great expectations in the educational community of the centre.
During the five phases of the project, the foundations of an art-based learning experience are progressively introduced, offering pupils opportunities for creation, imagination, and knowledge. On the other hand, “Las sillas-cuento” serves to break with the traditional identification of art in childhood exclusively with drawing, especially narrative or representational drawing of reality. In this case, other manifestations act as links in the project: play, narration, pictograms, photography, and installation.
