Abstract
After briefly emphasizing the importance of Květa Pacovská in the field of the object book and remembering that it is understood by classical tales, in this work, the avant-garde illustrations that this artist made for five classic tales are analyzed. An analysis is made of the most common type of images and their degree of iconicity, as well as a parallelism between Pacovská’s illustrations and the works of some of the twentieth-century artists who served as his reference. The stories analyzed are: The Little Match Girl, based on Andersen’s story; Hansel & Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, from the tales of the Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault, and Pierino & Il Lupo, by Sergei Prokofiev.
