This service-learning initiative combines educational research into the use of music as a teaching resource for environmental education with a practical experience of classroom intervention. Within the framework of the subject of Music in Primary Education, university students gave music workshops in a school to work on environmental awareness-raising values, on the occasion of Earth Day. The project was divided into three stages: 1) design of the activities and preparation of the material by the university students, 2) implementation of the workshops at all levels of primary education at the host school, 3) evaluation of the project among the school community and the university community. Throughout the process, music acted as a channel for dissemination and awareness-raising, amplifying the environmental awareness-raising work. Specifically, the activities developed mixed listening to nature, the construction of instruments with recycled material and the creation of soundscapes to address current environmental problems, paying special attention to those that directly affect the Galician territory (fires, eucalyptus plantations, overexploitation of resources, pollution of seas and beaches). Through songs, dances, sound, rhythms and movement, the Terra Project raised awareness in the educational community about environmental issues, using music as a creative and interactive tool for raising social awareness.
